Columbia River fishing report for 6/29/2012

Hi Everyone.

The Summer Chinook and Sockeye Salmon run on the Columbia River was fantastic this month! Catching limits of Sockeye was very common for nearly all of June and as well as the Summer Chinook! The Summer Chinook also known as “ June hogs” started out a little slower and then turned in to a very good fishery for nearly 3 solid weeks! Looking forward to next year’s June fishery, it’s definitely one of the best months in the year for fishing. Summer Steelhead fishing has been picking up on the North Fork of the Lewis River in the last week or so also. So far these steelhead have been on average quite a bit larger than normal averaging 12 pounds or so. I will keep posting fishing reports throughout the month.

We are starting to catch some Steelhead also and with a run of 1.5 million heading up the Columbia River it is for sure to be a blood bath for at least two months! In august the Fall Chinook will start making their way from the Pacific Ocean up through the Columbia River in also record breaking numbers, so make sure to plan a trip with us to catch some of those big boys.

Columbia River fishing report for May 31 2012

Hello everyone.  Fishing on the Columbia River is starting to pick up nicely for oversize and keeper sturgeon!  Also the shad are running in huge numbers right now making for a fun day on the water catching them one after another.  Summer Chinook will be open on the 16th of June and it is anticipated to be a great opener for the “June hogs” and also Sockeye Salmon.  The Summer Chinook are a fantastic tasting fish much like the Spring Chinook that come in just before them. Sockeye Salmon are also one of the best table fare fish their are,  Sockeye Salmon are not a very large fish but they make up for it in taste and healthy fish oils they contain. This is my favorite time of year to be a Columbia River fishing guide, because there are several different species of fish for and catch in great numbers!  The Columbia River Summer Steelhead will start to mix in with the catch of the Summer Chinook and Sockeye as well, and in late June, early July it will be full-fledged hot Summer Steelhead fishing!  This is a popular time to fish so seats will fill fairly fast, book your trip ASAP for the best dates.   I will also be spending quite a bit of time on the North Fork of the Lewis River and Cowlitz River during the month of July, These fishery’s are much more of a hands on approach to catching fish because everyone has a fishing pole in their hands, casting constantly into areas where fish hold.   So if that’s what you like to do make sure to let me know that you want to experience a much more pro-active way to fish.  Hope to hear from you soon!

With the limit set at two fish per person, and Spring Chinook prices set at $26.00 a pound, you are for sure to get your money’s worth of these awsome eating fish!  Summer Steelhead will be right behind these springers in July, and we are forcasted to have another dynamite run into the Columbia River and its tributaries.   In June, Sockeye Salmon are also expected to return to the Columbia River in huge numbers!  A run of 450,000 Sockeye are expected to come back to the Columbia this year which is a gigantic run of these also fantastic table fare fish.  Fishing will be great from now until November, this is the time of the year fishing guides and fisherman alike all wait for. Columbia River fishing report for April 25, 2012

Hello!  Fishing on the Willemette river is really heating up!  With multiple fish days already, it will only get better and better through the end of May.  The Columbia river has finally been closed for the season for Spring Chinook, and it was a great year despite the high water conditions.  Fishing is also picking up on the Lewis River, Drano Lake, Wind River and Cowlitz River  right now and will remain good till about middle May. There is alot of opportunity to have epic days on the water throughout the month of May for Spring Chinook.  Summer Steelhead will be right on the heels of the Springers on the Columbia, Lewis, and Cowlitz rivers begining in middle June. This is one of my favorite fishery’s that we have!

Columbia River fishing report for April 9th 2012

Hi everyone!  Fishing has been picking up on the Columbia River for Spring Chinook the last couple of days! With high water and unfavorable conditions so far this season, fishing has been a little tough this year thus far. With water levels dropping and warmer water temps starting to prevail, conditions for catching fish in good numbers will be a guarantee!  Fishing on the Cowlitz River for Winter Steelhead has been phenomenal for the past few weeks and should remain good through April.  Spring Chinook are also starting to show up in the catch rate on the Cowlitz as well!  The North Fork of the Lewis River and the Willamette River will be picking up soon as well, it should be great fishing by the last week in April till the middle of June for Spring Chinook. Dates are starting to fill up for these salmon so if you want a good date make sure not to wait too long and book your trip. Thanks for visiting NW Columbia Fishing Adventures! Hope to talk with you soon!

Columbia River fishing report for June 1st

Fishing on the Columbia River for Spring Chinook has finally started to slow down. But the good news is Columbia River Summer Chinook is right around the Corner! June is my favorite time of year because of the chances of catching a Sturgeon, Spring Chinook, Summer Steelhead, sockeye, or a Summer Chinook all in the same day is very likely. In the mean time we have been fishing for and catching keeper sturgeon on a daily basis. Keeper sturgeon fishing has actually been RED HOT for about 2 weeks now! With the sturgeon season coming to a close on June 16th, I expect the sturgeon fishing to stay strong all the way to the ender. Up next are Summer Chinook and I am expecting this year to be one for the record books. Stay tuned.

Columbia River fishing report for Feb 1-10

It’s that time of year again when Columbia River Fishing guides and sportsman alike get ants in their pants and start to get the jitters because Spring Chinook fishing is only a few weeks away! The Spring Chinook gives a buzz amongst fisherman that cannot be described. Perhaps it’s the strength these fish have when you catch one? Or just the fact that there is nothing that compares to the taste of the Columbia River Spring Chinook? Either or, there is something that drives fisherman nuts in pursuit of these Chinook! There already has been a few caught out there so it’s only a matter of time before fishing will get good. While we wait for these Chinook to enter the Columbia there is another fishery that keeps Columbia River fishing guides busy, and that is the Cowlitz River Winter Steelhead. Fishing on the Cowlitz River will be getting better and better each day, and when the beginning of March rolls around, it will be consistent catching for the whole month of March. I do have a few dates remaining for the Cowlitz River Winter Steelhead, and also Spring Chinook fishing on the Columbia, so book your seats while their available. This year the Columbia River Spring Chinook season is set for all of March until the 5th of April. If a Columbia River Spring Chinook is what your after, don’t miss out, this is not a long season on the Columbia River this year. Not to worry though there will be plenty of opportunity on the Willamette River and Cowlitz River for the Spring Chinook as well. Hope to see you soon to catch some fish!

Columbia River fishing report for July 27th – Aug 2nd

Hi everybody,

What a stellar year for Summer Steelhead so far on the Columbia River and Lewis River. Especially the Columbia! The steelhead that have to go all the way to Idaho to spawn have so much fat content in them for their long journey it makes them so much more moist and delicious tasting. In my opinion they are the very best the Columbia River has to offer. Fishing remains dynamite out there for the week of the 27th of July through the 2nd of August. Columbia river fishing guides and Washington state fishing guides have been gearing up for the up coming Fall Chinook Buoy 10 fishery that will be starting in the middle of the month. The Buoy 10 fishery is the most popular of any other in Oregon and Washington, Fishing Charters by the hundreds will all be down at the coast working hard for the 3 latter weeks of August and a few days in September as well. I myself will not be participating in this fishery this year, as I see no need to go there. Fishing for steelhead and sturgeon remains so good all the way through August, there is very little time between the Chinook being at the coast and not in the river. Usually when things start to heat up at the coast they are already pretty good numbers in the Columbia River. Hope to see you for the upcoming Fall Chinook run, it is forecasted to be one for the record books!
