Spring Chinook fishing this year has been really great! We started in the lower Columbia River April 1st and fished hard until there was enough fish over Bonneville Dam to head to the Columbia River Gorge and target “springers” in some really awesome scenery.
At the mouth of the Wind River we had success every day. Some days were easy limits, and some days were not so.. Wind conditions play a big role in how our day will go in the Columbia River Gorge. Luckily we only had a couple days of extreme wind and still managed to get fish those days.
Now it’s time to start thinking Summer Steelhead and Fall Chinook. We’ll have some great days out on the Columbia targeting steelhead for a couple weeks in July. It’s a really fun fishery, and the table fare you get from steelhead is phenomenal!
The main show known as “Buoy 10” starts August 1st in Astoria Oregon for Fall Chinook and Coho Salmon. This is a world class fishery that provides tons of action the whole month of August.
Every fish that swims up the Columbia River goes through this area providing fisherman with successful bounties every day of the month.
We also poke out into the ocean early August when the weather permits and get fast limits of Coho. The real fun on those ocean days is stopping by the south Jetty of the Columbia river after catching our coho and getting our limits of Bottom fish as well. Bottom fish consist of Ling Cod, Black Rock Bass, and Cabezon. All are great eating fish!
It’s time to get on the books for the fall season. It’s forecasted to be just like last year which was phenomenal fishing all the way through mid October. Call soon for the best dates. See you on the water!
